Teacher Salaries Listed For Pa. And N.J.
The oppressed masses in the Rose Tree Media Education Association -- the union the covers teachers, school nurses and guidance counselors in the Rose Tree Media School District -- voted to strike Wednesday.
Obviously, the working conditions in the district must be horrible for these caring professionals to take the drastic step of harming a child's education.
And they are! Consider the plight of Springton Lake Middle School physical education teacher Stephen Adams. His salary was $87,329 in 2009. And that was for 195 days grueling days of teaching gym class. Granted, he also gets benefits but can't you understand why he might have to vote to hurt a child with working conditions such as that?
Or consider Indian Lane Elementary School teacher David Woods. He made a mere $95,817 in 2009. I weep for these people.

I am a teacher in NJ, and based one my certifications, my education and my earning potential in industry I AM underpaid. But I do not complain about it ever since it was a choice I made to take the lower pay for more stability. As a matter of fact I can make the same claim you can.I have never had or heard a conversation where teachers have ever complained that they are not making enough money. I think you can write a school essay about it! And I would guarantee I know more teachers than you do.That would be like police officers complaining that their job is too dangerous, they go into knowing that just as teachers do.

I feel for them, my mom who was a retired teacher also experience the same thing before and every time she went home from teaching she looks so stressed out. Here in our country today, the teachers are petitioning for an extra allowance for the use of chalks. The educational investment to become a teacher is too high and yet the working income they get is too small. That's really frustrating, teachers should have the right amount of respect in our society for without them there would be no lawyers, doctors, ultrasound technicians, etc.

As ridiculous or non-ridiculous as you feel the salary at Rose Tree Media is, it is not unusual for an experienced teacher to be making this kind of money in this area. Wallington-Swathmore, another school district in Delaware county, has experienced teachers that are making over $100,000 a year. If you go to a nearby county like Montgomery, you'll find teachers making over $127,000.

I think it's important everyone have their needs met by their employer, but currently our government's policies of interference in everything prevent an economic condition that allows such thinking.
As to teachers, I can only say this - my parents got a superior education in a one room schoolhouse. I don't see why, in a town whose population is 11,000 - that we need to be paying out $7.25 million in teachers' salaries alone, let alone expensive perks. I believe we need to redefine what education IS, as well as bust the unions and clear out this pension crisis we have ourselves into that is bankrupting our states.

I need to be applying to places like these if that's really the case. I've been teaching for nearly a decade, and still fight to pay the bills. In fact, unless near retirement, I've never known a teacher who was well off, especially in the state of PA.

15-year-old students in the U.S. are performing about average in reading and science, and below average in math. Out of 34 countries, the U.S. ranked 14th in reading, 17th in science and 25th in math.
My guess is that you are a teacher or related to one.
The ones we should be listening to are the elderly on fixed incomes who can no longer pay exorbitant taxes in order to pay those high salaries and benefits.

There are so many "business" jobs that don't pay close to $100k, so it's surprising that middle school teachers can make it there.
I'm very divided on this issue, some great teachers deserve good pay, but some of the awful ones definitely deserve to be an inmate in jail for taking home that kind of money.
