Anti-Dictatorship Amendment Passes Senate

The Senate, last night, behind a coalition of Tea Party Republicans and liberal Democrats overwhelmingly passed Amendment 3018 to this year's National Defense Authorization Act.

The amendment clarifies that citizens or lawful permanent residents of the United States may not be detained without trial or charges.

The vote was 67-29. Of the 29 nays only four were Democrats.

Pennsylvania's Pat Toomey was among them. Bob Casey Jr. supported the bill.

And this is why old school Republicans seem out of step.
